Learning is about acquiring and retaining knowledge that you did not have before. When giving service to families in need you are learning about how a different group of people has to live to survive. Personal and physical experience can teach you just as much if not more than any professor in the world. You only have one life to live and no two lives are lived the same. By reaching out and helping another person's life you are giving yourself the opportunity to learn more about the reality of life rather than only looking at the world through your eyes. To be able to experience first hand a life being changed is more memorable later in life than anything you can read in a book.
